So I checked to make sure I deleted the appdb and sure enough it was there.  I deleted it again.  Ran the app and the checked to see if the appdb was there, it was back!!  What is going on?  I'm totally confused!
appdb is the APPlication's DataBase - this is where the app stores it's transient data - stuff it needs to know to run. When you delete it and run the app again it sees there isn't an appdb folder and creates one again in order to function correctly. You can delete it as many times as you want and it will reappear each time you run My Cast

Okay, so that makes sense.  If I deleted it when I reinstalled the app using the downloads from 1st post and did all the necessary changes, why does it still detect my locations from before?  Has that happened to others?

If you deleted the appdb folder completely it should not be able to know your location. You will have to type in the zip code again. But I only ever use one location.  So I dont know if anything gets stored.

Thanks for the answer.  I use our own zip plus my daughters, who is in another state away at college.  It did ask me to type in my zip again and then when I went to my locations it had hers also.  Must store it somehow.

MyCast is a web app and stores your location as a cookie, or at least stores some id info on its servers, probably separate to subscription info for privacy purposes, so it knows your preferences. Don't forget, writing software for phones is different than writing for computers. A running app has to cope with being interrupted by phone calls, which take precedence over everything, with the user just turning off the phone or taking out the battery - again, not something you usually do with computers. I woul;dn't be surprised if these apps store stuff all over the place - ini files, registry, cookies, server side...

Any ideas as to why this version of MyCast would not recognize my data plan?

It seems to be happening to everyone. Even those who are paying for it. I dont know if its an issue with garmin's server or ATT's proxy. The remedy on the impression forum is to make a new network connection without the att proxy and it seems to connect.

I had the same problem a few days ago.  I rebooted my phone and was then able to connect.

There was a paying customer on the impression forum that this has happened to. ATT could not even figure it out. They had him delete the app and reinstall. However when he tried to reinstall he got an error on the install from media mall. He couldnt even reinstall it. ATT left him hang with no app.

I believe he managed to reinstall with TKFE. And still got that 'could not connect to the internet error'. Making a new network connection without a proxy fixxed his issue. He has since reported the issue back with ATT and told them that the proxyless network connection fixxes the issue. I have heard nothing more since then.

Must have something to do with ATT's proxy not downloading the info correctly when the app starts up.

I tried making a proxy-less network connection but it didn't help any. Accuweather through Snaptu was having problems but now is not.

edit: M Cast Weather 2(the one posted) works if i have my phone plugged into the data cable. if i take it off it loses connection. plug it in and it runs fine.

Hey Agoat,

While setting up a new proxyless connection works great on my Impression I'm have trouble with my sons Eternity.  I set up a new connection without the AT&T proxy and change the home selection to google and on every app I tried it couldn't connect.  Is there something I am doing wrong or that needs to be done differently on the Eternity?

Thanks.

Not that I know of. Check the network profile again. Maybe you missed something.

Hey guys 1st post so hopefully I post this correctly my weatherapp had ended also so after rereading all these postings i decided I was going to make the changes that Agoattamer stated where you put the random digits instead of the phone ID.  I decided instead to just delete them all and see what that does and it did allow my access to the weather application again.  So i will try to post back after a few weeks to let you know how long it lasts.  Thanks for all the info guys.
