Have any of you noticed that you can only zoom in when taking a picture in continuous or panoramic modes?  Why can't you zoom in when taking a single picture?  I found that strange.

Truthfully, there is no point to zooming in with digital zoom.  Optical zoom has usefulness.  Digital zoom is no different than taking the picture and cropping it with photo editing software.

Probably better choices for smoothing/editing too with pc freeware like Gimp too. Gimp rocks!

You can use the digital zoom in regular pictures - just not in the 3MP setting - as mentioned it just crops the image from the higher resolution version.
