Uh, ever heard of freeware? You can download another suite... Windows explorer does a lot of that too...

I would recommend 7-Zip. It's completely free and very lightweight. Standard zip files can be unzipped with Windows (just right click the file and click Extract All)

Thank you very much for the advice Ive managed to get everything seemingly in order the only problem I am having at the moment is when I log on to tkfe it is not recognizing the port that my eternity is located on. I have downloaded samsung new pc and ensured it is off and I have even tried going to my device manager to manually find out what port the eternity is connected to but it is not showing up. Anything I might be missing?

Impossible. Try New PC Studio for our phone from Samsung... That's the only way I know of backing up texts.

i don't have the phone/pc in front of me you can't save individual texts this way and honestly, i do not know if it will save the whole lot of them but your texts are.... again, i do not have it in front of me to have exact
user/messages/sms
in theory, if you copy the files to your pc, you could reinsert them into the eternity and have the texts

As Toast said, I don't think BitPim can get the contact or sms info for the Eternity. Are you having problems with PC Studio? If not, why not use that instead? It has a simpler interface (IMO) and is actually meant to work with the Eternity.

I can guarantee you that texts will probably be hidden rehashed under some odd file if it could even be found at all. You might have better luck with contacts. Just get a go-phone so you can text and junk for now...

Is your touchscreen working enough where you could forward all messages to another number? I don't remember if the Eternity can do this, but can you bluetooth SMS messages to another phone?

No. Any button I press on my touch screen registers as the option furthest to the bottom of my screen. I.E. If I try to press anything on my default screen it will automatically go to "dial" "contacts" or "menu". Would it be possible to save the info using tkfe and try to load it into another samsung eternity? Its the only option I could think of that is left.
