I work with a bunch of programmers, one or two are also web developers and the general consensus is that it is not going to be possible to launch apps from a webpage for reasons of security. If you can launch apps from your own local web page then you can launch them from a remote web page and that is where the security kicks in - you don't want to click on a link on a website that offers free beer and find your email app started and a bunch of spam going out. Therefore logic dictates it isn't going to be possible using html without purpose-built apps designed just for that purpose.

There is a second browser in the phone with limited functionality which does launch some internal apps however I tried this only once and had to unbrick my phone, something I'm not prepared to do again. Whether I miscoded something or whether the other browser doesn't allow interfering with I don't know. If anyone wants to experiment then contact me and I'll provide what I know.

As for Rumiko he said his phone was programmed by someone else and he has no idea what was done, only that it works. He isn't in constant contact with the person who did the programming so we can only wait.

Sorry for posting in a somewhat old thread (it can't really be brought from the dead since its a sticky)
I was kind of curious so I looked at the code for launching a new SMS message. It appears that you can add a number after sms: to send to a specific person but is there any kind of syntax to add text to the person? For example
sms:2345551212,Hello!
would open a new message to 234-555-1212 with a message as Hello! where the user could then send the message.

I was wondering this because I'm kind of getting annoyed with texting on my phone (I feel like my screens getting less responsive so the keyboard is getting harder to use). If it was possible to do something like this, then it's possible that a new keyboard could be coded in html (for texting only obviously)
It is also possible that a java application could be made to create a new keyboard (maybe something like Swype?) and then an HTML document could be opened (although, the text java app would have to create an HTML file on the fly, and I'm not sure if that is possible with J2ME since I don't really program in java)

Just my thoughts (i have a feeling that it's not possible and it's only possible to have a number for a new message)

here is the syntax (haven't tried this one)

sms:14062050451?body=hello

you could also have it send to multiple numbers(haven't tried this one myself)

sms:14062050451,14062050451?body=hello

also fax, haven't tried this one though

sms:14062050451;pid=fax

Thanks!
I might try some things in HTML but, as I said before, I can't really program in Java so it'd be up to more knowledgeable people to go anywhere with an actual app for the phone.
