This is called, tethering. I do believe it's an extra 30 dollars a month and I don't think it's available on our eternity.
Actually, no.
Tethering refers to a direct connection between your device's data connection and your PC, and is always on. That is why in a cell-phone situation it is called "BT-DUN" (Bluetooth Dial Up Network), you are dialing into a data access line (which was) provided for the Palm Treo 650 (WAP@CINGULARGPRS.COM), this was the way the Palm Treo got online prior to the always-on data connection later provided by Cingular.

So basically it just uses up your minutes and if Att finds out about it you would get charged?

Surprisingly enough, it doesn't use minutes either.
Actually, even if you go to your data/call timer and transfer meter, once you do BT-DUN, the data transfer rate and minutes used will not go up from what they were prior to the dialing-in.

Please excuse my ignorance.  My first cell phone was the brick and I'm pretty much still stuck in that technological age.  I've got things on this phone I don't even know what they are or what they're used for.

Let me cut to the chase.

I'm a stormspotter and would like to be able to access NOAA radar while in the field following storms.  I'm not going to be downloading songs or videos, I'd just like to be able to watch a radar, or even check a radar from time to time.

Can this be done without an additional rate plan or extra charges?

If so, will you please explain how so a caveman could understand it?

OK I think I figured it out.  Real simple.

Download PC Studio from Samsung.com
Install
Plug in Phone
In  phone click Setting, Connectivity, PC Studio
At some time I had to name my phone in PC Studio
In PCS click Tools
Connect to web
Done.

Now whether or not I'm charged any different remains to be seen.

I guess the next question is, Can I receive or make phone calls while on the Web?

Ok, I've used Samsung New Pc Studio to connect to the internet but had nothing but problems with freezing and lost connections.   I wouldn't suggest using pc studio unless you have no other option.

I'm running win xp(just like it better) and connect using windows dial-up and notice it being slightly(meaning just noticeably) slower than high speed.  Oh yeah, no 3G in my rural area either.  EDGE is the best we get here.  I tried by bluetooth but it was really "laggy".  I prefere to use a data cable, but I was told you need a combo charging/data cable, not data alone.  C/D - this is what I have.

I also subscribe to the unlimited data plan and have never seen any extra charges.  This is my main means of internet connection as I'm unwilling to shell out my own clams for high speed.  So I use a  LOT of data.

NEVER INCURRED ANY EXTRA CHARGES. NOT ONCE IN 8 MONTHS.

As MGArcher007 said-

    USERNAME:WAP@CINGULARGPRS.COM
PASSWORD: I didn't need one, it was inserted for me.
DIALUP #: *99**1*1#     my number is different, hmmmmm

Although I've never had to restart my phone after disconnecting whether it was 5 min. or 5 days.  hmmmmm

And as he also said, it didn't charge any minutes to my account.

troglodyte:  I also had to install separately into my computer USB modem drivers which allow your computer to recognize your phone as a mobile modem.  Looked at many broken links before finding file on Megaupload. search for "MCCI_WHQL_USB_Modem_Driver_4.40.7".   Oh and yes, I've been surfing and when my phone rang(which it did) I answered it and after allowing the other party to hang up and my phone to disconnect went right back to surfing.   But I don't believe you can exchange data while in the voice call.

the reason the links were broken is because samsung had removed the drivers from a standalone download. however, just recently they released an updated pc studio and updated drivers that can be downloaded separately again.
