Background: I got my Eternity when adding a line to our family plan. Using that third line as an alternative "public" number, like a home phone. Our two personal lines are just for us, family, and friends. Our two old phones are LG Shines... glitzy phones and work OK, but lack in ability to sync, and now that I've discovered mobile data and the Eternity, there's no going back. We're ready to upgrade using our main two lines.

However... I just want an Eternity whose POP email works both ways (not just to send), and that has voice recognition dialing built-in so I can make calls in the car using only my bluetooth headset. My thumbs are pretty big, so a keyboard would be nice, but isn't a must. Not willing to pay for a Blackberry plan to get those things (which would also mean giving up the beautiful screen and smaller size).

My wife doesn't care to pay for data for hers, and only wants a QWERTY. She's still not figured out T9; and only uses her phone to talk and text.

What would you all pick?  I have to get at least one, because one of our Shines got dropped down the stairs... and while getting one, might as well use the upgrade on the other.

I think the Mythic does POP? As far as keyboards go, the Eternity has a QWERTY.... Are you talking about physical, or virtual keyboard? People with bigger fingers tend to have a harder time with the physical keyboards (like the impression).

Been wondering about the Mythic, and have just finished the Moto Backflip thread... that would be nice, but for the smartphone data plan requirement.

The virtual keyboard works fine sometimes, but at others just positively gives me fits.

/rant I can't believe how many phones require the $20 data/messaging feature now.  It's ridiculous. /rant end

Thanks...

Doesn't it have a built-in client like ours (but which works for receiving as well) that can be "unlocked" using the master key?

There's not much info to be had on the Mythic site. IIRC, the master key is even the same.

There is plenty of info on the mythic forum. What are you talking about? Mythic comes with mobile email 3.0 which is a $5 app per month. Also mythic does not require higher data plan.

I'm talking about the built-in native email client that can be enabled in the Eternity using the master key, not the AT&T Mobile Email app... that blows goats, as Wayne & Garth would say.

I have configured my Eternity to send emails via my small ISP's POP email server using the built in email client, but as we all know, it can't receive - throws an unkown error immediately when you tell it to check for new mail.  I have searched, but not found out whether the Mythic has this built-in capability working in full duplex, or whether it's been stripped out.

I'm making a trip to the AT&T store to play with phones tomorrow... I'll just investigate for myself. *tee hee*

Just back... the Mythic email client (Not Mobile Email 3.0) is just as scuttled as the one in the Eternity.  Went to an AT&T corporate store to play with phones, and broke into the Mythic internals; set up my POP email, and sent a test message just fine.  When trying to check for email, though, it was the same story.  It took a little longer to come up with a failure, and it said something other than "Unknown Failure", but it didn't work. I wonder if the wireless data proxy prevents access to pop servers.  Samsung surely wouldn't build the feature for it not be able to work.

Overall, liked the Mythic, but it still may not do it for me, since it's not a radical upgrade from the Eternity.  The screen is definitely much, much better, though.  That 360x640 resolution is awesome!

360x640 is awesome, until you figure out you cannot run music Id. Tongue
