I asked this similar question a month ago or so.  Between this site and googling the only answer I could find was whatever they have available.  Its my understanding you will get a refurb Eternity probably 90% of the time.  Otherwise you'll either get a reburb or new Impression or Mythic, depending what they have in stock.

You can also choose a comparable or lesser phone that is completely different (no, iphone isn't considered "comparable"in insurance terms).  If you do have to warranty it and can't/don't get another eternity, then the impression or mythic would be your closest options.

Well I had an eternity (Cry) and I foolishly lost it (now some one else is a happy bastard) and I filed a claim to Asurion,They had no more eternities in stock, so I got an impression. About a month later I noticed my impression had that 40 message text bug, I returned it and got another one, it also had the text bug, returned it and got another one a week later, and lucky me, This one had the bug too. Att is like "Well Mr. Craig, this is your 3rd phone so (after 2 mins of talking) we will try to get you a different model (I'm like " Yes, maybe an Lg Arena, or even a mythic!) *3-5 mins on hold while the representative talks to the Supervisors* Well mr.Craig, you have 3 choices, Pantech impact (Ug-lay), Samsung Flight (HAH! That's funny), or the solstice (Oh great..).

*me*" Is that it?

*rep.* Yes sir

*me* Is there any possible way I can get an eternity...or a mythic(yes!)"

*Rep." No we don't have any mythics, let me check with the Eternities ... ... ... Nope we're all of stock

*me* Are you sure that's all you can offer me

*Rep*We can give you another impression

*me* Um no... most certainly not, I guess I 'll take the...

*Rep.* Starts describing the phones (while americo remains quiet)

*me* I see... do any of them have a 3.5 mm jack?

*Rep.* I don't know.

*me* (Well can you check?) Alright, well I guess I will go with the Solstice

...... 5 minutes later it is on to my house.

Or I am sure they will let you pay the difference if you want a phone that is not comparable.

I think Americo's story would suggest they will give you a comparable phone IF They have a comparable phone in stock!  The Solstice is kind of a downgrade from the Eternity IMO.  Yeah the OS is more up-to-date, and it has some voice features, as well as speed dial, however the overall quality in comparison to the Eternity sucks.  My roommate has one, and while I was impressed with the OS improvements, I wasn't impressed with the quality of the phone at all.  For instance I couldn't help but notice the subtle color splashes that would appear on the screen when I would tap the commands... You know what I"m talking about right?  LIke on any LCD screen, if you put pressure on it it makes a color splash.  This isn't very easy to accomplish on the Eternity's screen, but the Solstice it's pretty easy.  Its obvious it has a very thin screen cover on it.

BTW What is this text message bug on the impression?

Seems many have issues sending text messages. I do not. They may send 30 or 300 then they will not send till they reboot their phone.

@Cor-Master, Agoat is right, with my phone I would send around 38 and receive about 40 messages and then by the time i send one more I would get "unable to send, please try again, no matter what my signal strength is, and it gets rather annoying.

wow... yeah that would get annoying.  If i recall my Samsung Sync would do that occasionally, but it wasnt an all the time thing.  That would drive me nuts if it happened all the time!  If and when I make a claim on this phone, I'll be sure to pass on the Impression if offered to me!

It is a problem you will see with many new phones I am afraid to say. The nexus one has reported this issue. Some users with HD2 also have this issue. And there have been many other new phones lately to also report this issue. And it is world wide. But ATT and Vodaphone in Europe seems to be the 2 biggest carriers with the issue. You will see more of this problem in the future. Has something to do with band switching on certain devices I believe and how your carrier has your account setup. I could put my sim in any impression I choose and guarantee that I will not have this problem. Nor do I have it on my HD2. But those that have it can do the same and every impression will have it.

We have done many tests on the impression forum. Thought maybe it was an issue with newer sims. But it wasn't. Some members have had ATT reset their connection in ATT's servers and it has resolved the issue. Others it hasnt.

As I said, I believe it has to do with band switching. ATT sends all their sms messages using GSM(phone). So I would assume vodaphone does too. Other carriers send sms messages via gprs(data) also. The problem seems to be related to HSPDA or 3G+. H on european phones and 3G+ on ATT phones. Same thing just different letters. But when your phone is locked onto that 3G+ signal and has to switch to GSM to send the sms something doesn't close properly and the connection freezes. A reboot of the phone resets the connection. And all is good for a time. I have had some success by having members go into the admin menu and change some network settings. Change to GMS first from WCDMA first. This doesnt turn off the highspeed data but just connects first using GSM. Others have claimed this has actually made their internet connection faster when browsing the web. And even GPS connections faster.

Now why I dont have the issue and others do is a good question. I have an older sim card. I also have been with ATT for quite some time. About 7 years. I also had issues with my data connection when I first got my impression a year ago. I would have a data connection freeze at least once a day. After many calls to ATT they changed my connection in their server and I have not had the issue since. Might have something to do with priority use of their server.

Another issue could be sms congestion with the call center. No one is really sure what is going on. All carriers, samsung and ATT all play dumb. If they know what is going on they won't let the reason known. Seems I have done more testing and have had more talks and emails exchanged with ATT than anyone I know. But I can assure you, I have had 2 impressions and niether had the sms bug.

well that sucks.   Luckily, i dont have the issue with the eternity.  Hopefully they'll figure it out and get it worked out eventually.

Come to think of it it was the Sony-Ericsson that had the issue, and usually rebooting wouldn't even fix it.  I just had to give it time.  Though that thing had all kinds of firmware issues too, theres no telling it was related to the Impression's issue.
