The Samsung Galaxy S looks like its going to be another android superphone. It was unveiled at CTIA 2010 and raised some eyebrows. It's RUMORED to come to AT&T (no official word on carrier or price). I plan on dropping the cash to get it without an upgrade discount (sure to incite some people's rage toward me) because it looks so promising. Oh yeah, it has a 1ghz processor and a GPU (graphics processing unit, feel free to attack me if thats the same as the processor i already mentioned) thats 3 times better than the best on the market. Combined with a 4" super AMOLED capacitive screen, it seems worth it. They left out a camera flash though, which is the only downside for me. What are your thoughts?

looks like a nice phone, but i don't see why Sammy thinks they have to put overlays over android...

i'm so glad they didn't put an overlay on my Moment, i'd be pissed unless it could be disabled...

one potential huge setback that could happen to the phone, would be AT&T's "bloatware". They did that to the backflip, making it unable to use 3rd party apps, and filling it with AT&T's useless junk. That would be the only thing that would keep me away from it.

hopefully ATT gets this... Android 2.1 and touchwiz 3 sounds like a win win to me!  I just hope they let android be android this time... Apple just annonced free apps with "iAds" so no reason to limit this thing to just paid apps!

just to clarify, the backflip isn't limited to paid apps, you just can't hack the phone.

can you define what it means by not being able to "hack" it? from my understanding it's that they've made it impossible to use unsigned apps or something but then also they tied it to only being able to use at&t apps. i'm not too educated on it, and i already read the motorola backflip post that's on this site. But so this topic doesn't get horribly off track, just explain exactly what at&t did to the backflip, so i will have an understanding of what might happen to the galaxy s.

that's the thing. no one but motorola and AT&T can tell you what AT&T did to it because there isn't a back flip available direct from motorola to compare it to.

I'm able to upgrade in a few months, and this phone definitely caught my eye.  My other eye is on the Nexus One, but I would rather use an upgrade discount if one is available, and this phone does land with AT&T.

If anything, data plans will only increase with more smartphones. More people using data to clog up the tubes = more expenses for AT&T and the like to handle = more expensive data plans.

I sure hope not.  I think $30 is absurd especially considering its the same price I pay for my way more capable home internet, which is also through AT&T.  3G can't do 12m/s download, nor have multiple devices hooked up to it.

I imagine I'm eventually just going to come to terms with it... Not much you can do eh?  Verizon, Sprint, & T-mobile all
have $30 data plans on smartphones too, and iTools gladly pay it without complaining.  I was ready to come to terms with it honestly until I had to add my wife to my plan... Now I really don't want it higher than it is!

Does anyone know if Att gives you a discount on smartphone data if your on a family plan?  For instance regular data on my eternity, I was paying $20/month on my individual, and its only $10/line on my share plan.  Just curious cuz along the same lines, my wifey really wants a backflip, but I dont wanna pay $40 more a month for us both to have smartphones

BTW now that I'm finding out that the backflip is limited to official apps only, not necissarily paid or not, I'm thinking well its really not that big of a deal.  So you basically HAVE to get apps of Android Marketplace eh?  If they load this phone up with bloatware and limit it to official apps only... Its stil gonna own.  And Im thinking with touchwiz as the UI its going to be very familiar to all of us...
