Inspite of AT&T saying its not possible, its android, I'm sure it'll probably be easier to hack than our eternities!

According to a post on phandroid.com:

Darkseider wrote:
"I believe the Galaxy S is a “Google Experience” phone due to the Google logo on the back of the device and because of this AT&T can’t neuter it. There are the 3 tiers of Android devices the top tier which carries the Google logo by contract must have Android intact with the ability to install apps from non-trusted sources as well as all the Google goodness as well. So if it is indeed going to AT&T it will be a “full” android experience."

Now maybe this is just garbage, I don't know, but it certainly gives hope. Smiley

i hate to burst bubbles but there's quite a bit of misinformation in this thread....

first of all.  4G will REDUCE data costs, so the sooner Company X embraces it, data plan prices will plummet.  one 4G tower can produce the same quantity of data as 3 3g towers while using LESS energy and network resources.

second.  my data plan on Sprint (with Android phone) is only $10 and i have experienced better coverage, better signal, faster download speed, and faster upload speed than i ever did with any of the phones myself or family members used on ATT.

plans will not drop. the company will just make more money.

glad you found better speeds and such. but you obviously do not live in my house. AT&T whips the competitions rear end around hear.

google (and the OHA) will cause awesome phones be released on all four carriers and the carriers will be force to offer either more service or less cost.

$10 data from sprint?  I might check them out.  My wife's grandparents have them and love them, but I've known people who've had sprint too, and they've had mixed feelings... hell some have even switched to AT&T/Cingular.  I know before the nextel merger, the coverage was crap here (I live in Indianapolis).  One of my best friends, in which was the first to have a cell in our group, has had Sprint for about 10 years, loves them and refuses to switch.  I go to sprint I can get that HTC EVO 4G phone which is nearly the same thing is the Galaxy but without Touchwiz.  But of course after 8 years of service with AT&T I prefer to stay with them if I can get a deal.  Coverage is def. not a problem, I'll give them that.  Ever since they bought AT&T wireless seriously I haven't had many dropped calls.

Anyway my thought on Data dropping is the featurephone's days are numbered, and I honestly wonder how much more they can improve a feature phone before it becomes a smartphone?  My Eternity for instance, with opera Mini installed is about as capable at searching the web as the iphone, and I surf on my phone all the time, probably use 30-40mb of bandwith a month playing on the internet, yet I only pay $10 for data.  At what point will there just be one data plan?  I guess I can see it go either way, down or up.  But if they reduce the cost with 4G it could potentially go down.

There is hope.  I mean right now at $30 its already dropped.  Smartphone data on GPRS/EDGE only used to be $40/month!

Yeah the Backflip, and Dell Aero are pieces o' crap and alot of people seem to think AT&T is just going to rape all its Android devices to protect the iPhone.  However I really do believe 2 things: #1. Android is taking off like a bat out of hell and #2. the iPhone will be offered on Verizon too before the end of this year.  AT&T is competitive like the rest of the companies, so they will have to have a good Android phone to compete.  Personally though are the Aero and Backflip even meant to be full featured android devices anyway?  They both more or less seem to be "feature phone replacements"... heck on that note take my wife, she loves the backflip!  I think as far as Android goes, the best is still yet to come to AT&T.

its funny that if you google this phone how many websites and people are pissed that it's all but official that its coming to AT&T.

And yet we have another thread being overcome by sarcasm. I guess some people don't understand that phones are sold to operate as they are intended by the carrier. Bad point or good point? Well it keeps them simple and stops people from bricking them. This only costs the carrier more money which is passed on to the rest of us.

If you want that perfect universal phone then look for unlocked versions. Why beat down a dead horse talking about ATT branded phones? They do exactly what they were meant to do.

i would base better customer service on luck. but at the same time, i am a realist. so i would guess that since american companies have dropped 1.5 million tons of lazy unmotivated employees, service everywhere has gotten better.
yeah, i said it. shoot me. companies don't layoff good employees unless they have to. they get rid of dead weight first. so most people deserve to be out of work or earning less by working  at burger flipping jobs and toilet scrubbing.
see, people think that because 'the economy' is 'bad' that business is kissing their ass to get their money. no. wrong. its simply that you now deal with people who want to work.

I have always made my phone purchasing decision based on the advertised features.  Although phones are intended to be used as the carrier intended, there will always be people (and groups like us) who try to use the hardware to its full potential.  Unfortunately it's always difficult when a phone is just released (or in this case hasn't even been released yet), as all of the early members of this forum have experienced.  Any of these unlocked features should just be considered a bonus, like our GPS, signing bypass, and the rest. Smiley

But back on topic, this phone looks like it could be really cool.  I've seen a number of videos, and am definitely looking forward to hearing more information about it.

Guys I'm sorry if I'm causing trouble, I'm really not trying to, just trying to keep good conversation going here.  Who said anything about Customer service?  I'm not trying to turn this into an AT&T bashing thread.  If they truly are getting this phone, than if anything I'm praising for them, "well done AT&T!"

Make no mistake I'm anxious for an official word from AT&T about this.  And Reviews.  Hopefully we'll know more in the coming weeks.

I share the same sentiment as Cor-master... I apologize if I brought this conversation down.

I initially posted about At&t C.Service, however, it was only to suggest that competition may have helped improve At&t's C.Service.  I've been very happy with them in the past 6-12 months.

Of course, I redacted that post 30 seconds after I uploaded it (the rest of the message contained too much cynicism, of which I felt guilty about after seeing Agoat's post).

Back to the topic at hand...

I agree, I'm VERY excited to see what comes of the Galaxy S.  Amoled... Android... Touchwiz, too?... WiFi... and the list goes on!

I'm also curious as to how Android will grow... supposedly, it is starting to catch-up to iPhones in the entertainment-side phone market?  It should be fun to see what is out in 12 months when I can get a new contract phone. Smiley

p.s. - not that i'm in a rush... I LOVE my Eternity.
