To make one phone that fits all might be hard. Although sprint and verizon are cdma you cannot make one work on the other. They are incompatible. Of course we know t-mobile and ATT are compatible for service, just not highspeed data. And as of right now this is all done by hardware.

I did read about a phone, might have been a blackberry that changed the radios using software instead of hardware. But I am not sure of its total capbilities. To make a phone that supported all UMTS bands would be easy. There is no reason except for red tape that a phone cannot support ATT and T-mobile. But to throw verizon and sprint in on the deal would be difficult. Totally different technologies.

I know what google said but I just dont see how it is possible especially since they are not doing it.

hate to burst anyone's bubble, but unlike att's Nexus One, sprint is getting a full contract with Google with subsidized pricing and everything...  BEFORE VERIZON!

I think I might be in tears... FOR THE FIRST TIME WE'RE ON THE SAME PAGE!!!

I never got a chance to make my point but that is what I was getting at...  Its not about who has the "best 3G coverage" or about what luke wilson has to say... its about getting the best 3G experience with the best 3G phone!  For me anyway I don't know what I'm going to do when the contract's up in feb 11 but I do know I would LIKE to for ONCE in my life consider all options.  T-mobile you have to walk outside, and verizon you have to accept you phone's more locked down than AT&T... whatever I just wanna for ONCE have the right to choose instead of just surrendering to AT&T because its what I have now and its what I'll always have.  On that note I do believe the Nexus one is the fourth in a line of "popular phones".  the first was the Nokia 5100 series.  The second was the Motorola Razr and all its clones.  The Third was nothing more than the iPhone.  The 4th?  Android all the way baby!

By the end of this year AT&T will regret it signed a contract with iphone.  MARK MY WORDS!!!   I just wanna know who wants to bet me?  Android is the FUTURE.  iPhone?  What are Mac's these days?  Exactly!  When its all said and done the iPhone will be loved by the "mac" crowd only and Android will be as welcome as Wndows 7 is to PC's!   Thats what I believe!  And as far as this "Windows 7 phone" series goes I think its great MS is acknowledgeing Android and iPhone OS are a problem, but by the time Windows 7 phone series is released it'll be too little too late.

And I do BELIEVE the Nexus one is the "halo phone" on that note.  Will there ever be a halo phone?  probably not.  If there was what would it be called?  nexus one hand down.  Its as close as you get to a "god phone".  If god had to pick a phone, he'd pick the nexus one.  nuff said.  I've watched the reviews.  I've seen the comparisons to the mighty "iphone.".  Nexus one is the "God phone".  nuff said.

I am sorry it seems I "bitch" about all other phones, but the truth is I hate apple.  I proudly own a microsoft Zune 30GB mp3 player, and would buy an album from Nickleback before i bought any product from Apple.  I would truley feel like the biggest tool in history to buy an iPhone!  I calmly waited forever... and finally google released the Nexus One!  The best phone ever!  It is real.  Check the reviews!

does anyone remember when long distance competition got rates down to four cents? now its back up to... i don't know, i have an  area code package and dropped the rest. but it was around forty cents.

that's what will happen to cell phones without contracts. first the prices will go up because they aren't guaranteed your money. competition will drive them down, and then they will rise again and end up costing more than the original price increase.

and while they might make a phone compatible with all networks, the networks won't be the same anytime soon unless the government takes control of telecommunications the way it has in eu nations.
its easy to have good service border to border in a country the size of new jersey with flat terrain. especially when they can just put up a tower anywhere they choose without the threat of cancer cluster studies, one white eyed snail habitat lawsuits, and neighborhood beautication initiatives.

Well anyway I'm not sure theres much else to talk about... The Nexus one is on AT&T which is great.  However unless AT&T is planning on subsidizing it with a 2-year, I doubt it'll take off, but I think when Verizon gets its version, they are planning on subsidizing it and selling it in stores and everything, and then it'll truley take off.

I honestly don't know if America will ever be able to get away from its subsidized ways.  Maybe if we never did it from the getgo, it would be one thing, but lets face it.  $500+ for a phone is hard to stomach...hell anything over $200 is hard to stomach for the average consumer, esepcially one who couldn't care less about a phone's features.  The problem is America is used to cheap phones.  I will say even for me, even as much as I love the Nexus, paying $529 is hard to stomach...and don't get me wrong I know first hand for a smartphone of its caliber that is pretty cheap, but still you can pay $500 for a phone, or you can buy a laptop, a PS3, an Xbox 360, or a million other things in that price range.

it's not going to be one phone that works on all four networks, it's going to be four different versions of the same phone.
