So I edited a few widgets and installed them.  One of the apps still turned out to be too large for the screen (it was supposed to be resized, I must have missed something) and it not only covered any menus I went into but slowed the phone til it froze.  Lucky for me I had no mem card in at the time and so had pc usb mode enabled, I just went in TKFE and deleted the widget.  Had to go back into the phone when I turned it back on and delete it again (it was still listed) from the menu. Problem fixed.

So now I have been more careful of what widgets I test.  Most of them coming from the Impression forum.  I installed a batch yesterday, no problems, but when I pulled either a accuweather or time widget off the sidebar don't remember which, the phone restarted. and restarted... bricked.  Apparently widgets that have been thoroughly tested can still randomly brick yr phone.  The phone gets 3 secs into homescreen, updating time comes up, then it restarts.

Had it in mass storage mode unfortunately, took the mem card out, don't know if this will change that setting or not. I can't get the computer to recognize the phone therefore no TKFE access to be able to delete it.  Don't want to chance trying to delete with the phone rebooting and I'm assuming there's no firmware for this phone? I searched and read about everything but came up with nothing. Tried to get to bootloader menu but no luck yet, was thinking maybe TKFE would work from there.

Funny enough my alarm is set to wake the phone up if it is off, which it does and without restarting.  Didn't think about hooking up the usb cord til after I turned the alarm off at which point the phone shut off again.  Have to wait to morning to try and see if the comp will recognize it with the alarm going off.

Just need to delete that widget, maybe someone has an idea on how to get it into a mode where I can, or even reset the phone. Not concerned about losing anything. Any ideas? Or do I submit it back to AT&T under warranty? (got the phone right before x-mas)

Update:
I took the sim card out and started the phone and I can access the menus and delete it out now.  Problem fixed.  I feel retarded that I didn't try that sooner.  Oh well atleast I can share the info.

And to finalize the story...

Starting the phone without the sim and the sd allowed me enough time to get into the menu and delete several widgets but it then did restart again.  I pulled batt, put sim card and sd card back and it started and stayed on the homescreen without restarting, was only able to use multi-task button & send button to access anything, no menus. Could get into the games but couldn't get into the apps (to use the bluetooth prog to del the other widgets)

Then I found the master reset code from Solstice's site: *2767*3855# and could get to the dialer from the multi task button.  And now everything is reset and working again.

A noob fixes her own phone without help  Wink

This issue will probably happen again on any one of the other similar phones. Quoting a quote from the impression site: http://www.samsung-impression.org/general-samsung-impression-discussion/ugh-i-think-i-bricked-my-phone-installing-a-stupid-widget/

Unfortunately i've had the same problem with installing widgets, on several handsets! We cannot figure out how it happens, but every now and then a phone just keeps rebooting when you install a widget. EVEN a widget that worked fine before, where (almost) nothing changed...

It's a riddle to us, but be aware!

I just hopes this doesn't happen to consumers downloading a cool new widget from the more widget store.. that will trigger pretty bad word of mouth I guess.

Eternity II users (or anyone without firmware for the phone) before testing or trying anything this will save you extra hassles:
Make sure your phone is set to pc mode, pulling the sd card did not change it.  Put a copy of that bluetooth app in yr games folder (unless we can add "apps" shortcut to the multi-task menu, I don't know). IF you can get in yr phone without it restarting, remember the master reset and access the dialer from the multi-task menu.  The <red> bootloader access is the vol down + camera & power on (without sim or sd card), just to confirm that it worked.

I can walk anyone else through what I did if they need me to.  BTW I have never messed with any internal settings except to update the java db.

Huge post, thx for listening to me vent.  Grin

Stormlilly I think at has somthing to do with OTA download of the widget because you are correct even widgets that have tested hundreds of times still can put ones phone into a recycle sequence. It has happened to me on my solstice. I don't know if your phones internal lay out is the same but this is how I got mine fixed. When ever I am testing a widget I make sure my phone is set to pc studio connection first. I went in via tkfe with the phone turned off yes with phone off still was able to run tkfe on the impression and solstice there is a folder named wm_store. I deleted all the files within that folder and turned my phone back on then performed the factory reset you mentioned and all was good. So any time you do a OTA download of a widget I think you run the risk of a bad data transfer. Also wondering was it one of the widgets I created that caused it.

stormlilly where exactly are the widgets stored on the eterniy ii? Do have access to the ones that came pre-installed? If so I would like a copy of the preinstalled widgets. Also have you ever tried the html install method for widgets, games and apps?
