I subscribe to Boy Genius Report in Google Reader and noticed this as I was scrolling through.
http://www.boygeniusreport.com/2010/06/01/att-picking-up-htc-aria-samsung-eternity-ii-samsung-captivate/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+TheBoyGeniusReport+%28Boy+Genius+Report%29&utm_content=Google+Reader

If the Eternity II is actually released, I wonder if it'll have any of the same bugs as the Eternity?

if history tells us anything, this will be a smart phone. and a big let down based upon expectations of the name and hype.

Its nosuprise they'd make a phone under that name though it is a bit odd they would release it now since any AT&T rep will tell you the Mythic is the sequel to the Eternity.

the articles said the cap is the american equivalent of the the gal. you did hear that it is not coming to the states, didn't you?

which could lead one to speculate that it could be another eternity behold omnia situation where each carrier customizes it and renames it. if that's the case, lets hope they don't ruin it. although, as of now, no one has seen the galaxy to know if it worth the hype. it might be ruined from the manufacturer.

that's all its been. hype. just like every phone ever released, 'oh man i can't wait it will be so cool'. people don't even have their phone a week that they are drooling over (or feeling remorse for not waiting or upset over an over hyped phone purchase) something that they heard about coming some day soon.

salesmen sold the solstice as an upgraded (or updated) eternity. and some people fell for it. lol
some people will fall for anything.

but it is actually a surprise they release a ii. AT&T doesn't usually do that. according to my memory, its only been more recently that they've done 2 or pro type names.

Well for once Nunya I'm following ya.  Yeah AT&T and Samsung both said "the galaxy is not coming to the states".  So calling it a "captivate" makes sense... But yeah as a  "Mythic" owner, I will say the phone actuallly feels like 100% sequeal nothing more, nothing less, and as AT&T hardly ever does it, the name "Eternity II" is a suprise.

I for one will pubilically state that I am happy with the mythic.  no its not the "end all to end all iphone killer" that we hoped the Eternity would be, but they fixed the increasing ringtone bug and gave the mythic a dedicated ringer speaker and thats fine with me.   That was my biggest issue with the eternity.  As for the crappy web browser, well they make Opera Mini for both phones so thats not a big deal.  I'm not sure what else they can do to make an "eternity II" better other than maybe finally do away with proprietary locked homescreens!

For most people, 2gb is way more than enough. And I would think that the new data plans apply to "feature phones" as well, even though those phones are going to be phased out soon.

Nah, there will always be feature phones. I'd bet on the Eternity II being somewhat like the Mythic but a lot faster.
