Well depending on what you want to do did you set the phone to mass storage or pcstudio?

Also what ever you are trying to do there are some great threads on here to help you. The people here spent a lot of time creating them. Show them the respect and search.

Are you using pcstudio? If your using windows to just drag the files onto your card then set it to mass storage.

some cables are charger cables only. are you sure yours is definitely a data cable? If you are sure then send it back, mail order companies often make this mistake. it took me four tries once to get a data cable for a creative zen music player.

you will know if it is only a charger cable if you set it to mass storage and your computer doesn't recognize it as anything.

What operating system are you running?

Nunya is right, you really do get what you pay for and you can't really complain if the bargain you got for 0.01c on Amazon fails to perform as you would like. It's not a good idea to stay away from 'Made in China' items too because often the ATT or whatever recommended item is also made in China. Just be aware, the dollar rules in any transaction and the object of any sale is to part the customer from her money at the least cost.

i was kinda leaning more towards the idea of getting that (quasi) professional assistance that you don't find online.
ya know, we got one guy that just said he paid five bucks. but he is experienced enough to help himself. and then there's the other who didn't know and could have used the help.

but buying cheap stuff is always a warning sign.
