Agoattamer has done it again! Look for the new: How to install games and apps from the memory card tutorial: [here] Smiley

How to: Install Games/Apps w/ Data Cable Tutorial
This is if you want to install game/apps without a data plan but you will need a data cable to access the phone.

(This Guide has been revised to include installing games/apps using the master key)

Before posting a reply please read over the other pages, there are a lot of users that have asked the same questions and other users stated different methods that worked for them.

For a Video Tutorial:
<a href="http://www.youtube.com/v/wNczeXn1fic&rel=1" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/v/wNczeXn1fic&rel=1</a>
*Thanks Aligzandoor*

*****************************************************
This method works with Windows XP and Windows Vista (32/64-bit).
Windows 7 users try using New Samsung PC Studio (even if you get the 64-bit error it will still detect, works for me Smiley).

USB Cable Used: Samsung Model: APCBS10BBE (this model is for data transfer and charging) Which I purchased [here] which came out to $5~, and that took about a week to get to where I live.

*****************************************************
Included in this guide:
Uninstallation of previous drivers/programs.
Installation of PC Studio 3/How to back up your Contacts
Installation and usage of TKFileExplorer
Accessing Admin Settings w/ Master Key

*****************************************************
Download Links:
PC Studio 3: [here] (What we use in this guide)
TK File Explorer 2.2: [here] (Used to access the Internal Memory of the phone)
JADGen: [here] (Used to generate .JAD files from .JAR files)

*** You can play with New Samsung PC Studio if you'd like but this is not used in this guide, You can also get TKFileExplorer to work with just the USB Modem Drivers if you want standalone drivers (No PC Studio) ***
New Samsung PC Studio: [here] (Not a personal fav but if you want to play with it then go ahead Tongue)
USB Modem Drivers: [here] (Used if PC Studio doesn't load the proper drivers or you just want standalone drivers)
For a Tutorial on how to install the drivers manually (without PC Studio): [here]

*****************************************************

Uninstallation of previous drivers/programs.

1. Uninstall previous Samsung USB/Modem Drivers as well as any PC Studio programs. (Yes, all of it. Just wait till the last one to reboot)

2. Go to the following website: [here] and download PC Studio 3 (3.2.2 HG5). This version seems to work fine with the Eternity but do not update it to the latest as many users (including myself) werent able to detect the phone after. (72.4 MB)

Installation of PC Studio 3

3. Once downloaded run the setup file. (Make sure the phone is unplugged)

4. Once installed it will ask you an update. Press 'Cancel' as you already have the version you need.

5. Now Connect your USB Cable to your phone. Make sure the phone is set to 'Samsung PC Studio'.
(Menu -> Settings -> Connectivity -> Select USB Mode -> Samsung PC Studio)
Let the drivers install.
->

6. Once finished you might have to restart PC Studio 3 as well as your phone to detect properly (while still connected). Once detected it should say 'SGH-A867 Connected'.

How to back up your Contacts

7. Go to Phone Editor and click on SIM, it should load all your contacts. Select All (By Right-Clicking) and drag it to the PC. This is how you can back up your SIM card to your PC.

*****************************************************
This Concludes Installing Samsung PC Studio 3
*****************************************************
[The following method contains procedures that add/removes files into the internal memory and has the potential to brick (unusable) your phone. Users at this forum are not responsible for anything that you do with your phone. Do this at your own risk. With the Master Key the risk is less to none but the possibility is still there. Tongue]

***If you some how brick your phone, follow this method***
http://www.samsung-eternity.com/index.php/topic,5325.0.html

Installation and usage of TKFileExplorer

8. Download TKFileExplorer: [here] or search through the forums. Run the program and it should look like an explorer window. (Make sure PC Studio is closed as well as the tray icon)

9. Go to Settings -> COM -> Click on the drop selection under 'Port' and select one that’s available.

10. Click 'Connect'

10a. If the phone connects with PC Studio but not TKFileExplorer you can do the following method found: [here] Thanks *madcoooowwww* for the tip.
(Basically unplug the data cord from the phone, turn it off, turn it back on and on the loading screen with the loading bar, plug the data cord back it Smiley)

11. The phone should connect if done properly.

12. Games are located in /Exe/Java/Games/, When transferring games make sure that you have both the .JAR and .JAD files. JADGen can be downloaded: [here] Just drag the .JAR file and drag it to JADGen.exe to generate a .JAD file.

When copying the game onto the phone, it is easier to create a folder in the phone and transfer the .jar file then the .jad file one at a time. Dragging multiple folder/files may cause the connection to freeze, lag or lose connection.

Accessing Admin Settings w/ Master Key

Once you have finished transferring all the games/applications you want.  Do the following:

13. Go back to the home screen and tap 'Dial' input the following: (For Admin Settings) *#6984125*#
->

14. Tap on 'Internals', Input the following code (Master Key). *#3818790*#
->

15. Tap on 'Storage Settings'

16. Tap on 'Update Java DB', Now scroll down to where it says 'Update app database' and Tap on that.
->

17. It should take a couple of seconds to update.

18. Once updated you can check out your new games/apps! Cheesy

Credits go to: Agoattamer & pmankow for the latest addition with the Master Key! Cheesy
*****************************************************

This concludes the guide, if you have any problems or questions just reply them to this thread.  Smiley

Users who have unlimited data plan do not need to use the TKFileExplorer method for installing games.

You can use websites such as this: [here] (or other wap sites) to upload your games/program files.

Agoattamer mentioned that if you install the GPS Apps via TKFileExplorer it will grant all the permissions therefore there is no need for other hacks such as applying the settings.bin fix or the ATT branding method.

Within the TKFileExplorer, I select the settings and the drop-down box portion of PORT is empty and there's nothing to choose from. What do I do since I can't get it to connect? Thanks.  Sad

Usually the Error comes from the drivers.  After you installed PC Studio you didnt update it correct? also did you set your phone to PC Studio mode? and did PC Studio detect your phone? (Step #5)

Getting the computer to work right with the drivers is the key part to getting TKFileExplorer to work.

Also i checked device manager, there seems with no problem. Should I check more things?

Is there any more methods to install new applications?

You can try installing the USB Modem Drivers and trying to get TKFileExplorer to work again.

New thread, same ole problems. Make sure your phone is set on menu/settings/connectivity/select USB Mode and select pc-studios and save. Try rebooting your phone just before you connect. Reboot your phone while still connected with the cable and try to connect again. Make sure PC-studios or its monitoring icon is not running in the taskbar.

Brilliant!!! - Just got the Eternity two weeks ago and thought about upgrading to the data plan just to get stuff for the phone. Now I really don't need the data plan or miss not having it.

When the TK Explorer is open and your phone connected to PC through USB, restart your phone once. Goto TKExplorer settings to select the Port again. Then click on Connect again and it should get you going...

Have fun, without data plan  ;-)
