I am publishing the Enhanced Settings Guide right NOW. I will post a link later. I conducted research today, in 3-4 bar EDGE network. After each settings change, I rebooted the phone so I could get accurate results on restart, without the phone already have known where it was. These were done with Google Maps with GPS.

Standalone (with standard settings) : 2 minutes TTFF outside.
AGPS UP (with standard settings) : 30 Seconds TTFF outside.
AGPS UP with MS Assissted : 5 Seconds TTFF outside.
AGPS CP: reverted to AGPS UP every time.
AGPS UP with MS Based (standard) with Session Type as Tracking Mode: Immediate TTFF (not kidding, it didn't even show the large shaded area at all).

I did not test too much more. MS Based with tracking is the BEST option if you are driving, or just want a crazy ridiculous fast fix (I think it stores your last fix and tracks you from there?).

I need your help to test the other options! This is going to be great!  Grin

After three days of verifying these settings, this is the most accurate and most stable setting for MY phone WHERE I USE IT.   The most important asset to me is to know where I am in Satellite View.   From here I can find my way anywhere.  Accuracy is 0 to 5 meters with 3 meters being normal.

LBS Mode
A-GPS

Assisted GPS Mode
A-GPS UP

A-GPS Option
MS Assisted

Transport Layer Secure
ON

Service Option
Location and Altitude

Session Type
Tracking Mode

For me, its reverting to AGPS CP at all times. All other settings are retained, except for this one setting. Not sure why its behaving differently from yours.

AGPS CP? How? Was it initially this way?

I guess no reply from him.  Roll Eyes
Update on personal research:

After I changed my phone to the settings in my guide, I have not needed to restart the phone for use of GPS. I do not have Cold Start or Warm State enabled/on. Does anyone else with my settings have to restart their phone every 4-12 hours if you want to use GPS? This will help me know that the warm state and cold start functions don't actually do anything in regards to the "Eternity GPS Bug".

well i'll reply toast, cause i have the same problem. it was originally set on UP and i tried to get stand-alone to work for quite a while first (didn't have a sim card yet Cheesy) i'm pretty sure i got it to work with UP but then after changing it to CP its been 'stuck' on CP and i havn't been able to get a fix.

edit: i changed warm state and cold start to enabled and was able to switch it back to up and have it stick.

edit2: and it now connects and gets a fix real fast

Well I am glad you tinkered through your problems to find a solution! That's how I came up with the guide, by trial and error. Are you using the Impression? I know that Eternity's are set to Standalone by default.

nope, its an eternity. i've made one of my friends want one too.

edit: and if that works for getting it unstuck from CP for me maybe it'll work for others and allow you to switch to CP for you. (not that it seems to work)

Okay, so was your phone previously used or refurbished? I don't know how it was set that way, because all of our phones were set to Standalone, and really you two (or maybe just you) were the first that have mentioned it being something different as default.

no no, it wasn't default set to CP i changed it to CP and it got stuck. it was originally on standalone and then i changed it to UP and then to CP, got stuck on CP (even when i changed it back to standalone) and then got it unstuck. i suppose my phone was new, the person i purchased it from had only used it to set up the service.

That's odd. I'll add your method of correction to my guide once I get around to it. Thanks for being really detailed Smiley

Well, I did test to see if "Standalone" GPS was actually a standalone function. I went to a place with absolutely no cell service (for AT&T) and perfect GPS conditions on top of Half Dome in Yosemite National Park. Not once on Half Dome did I get service. It also was perfect for GPS signal, being over 8,000 ft. above sea level with neither clouds nor close, taller peaks.

Procedure:
I tested a few different GPS programs, such as Google Maps and MGMaps. I forgot to use the internals menu to see if it could acquire a fix, but forgot. Not to leave unmentioned, the internals menu fix tester was very buggy at best, and even if it did work without signal, it would be practically useless unless you used coordinates often... Also, I tested it without my SIM card, which MGMaps could have at least told me my coordinates even if it couldn't download a map. Also, a few times, on the 8+ mile (one way) trail, I would get a bar or two of service, so it allowed me to test if GPS would work (in Standalone mode) after it left service.

Results:
GPS did not work without signal. This was with/without SIM, in standalone mode (also tried A-GPS for the heck of it), and even after I had service and a fix then left it. Agoattamer was right, this does not work at all without signal.

Conclusions:
Possibly, that Standalone mode is worthless because it is slower than A-GPS mode?
Not necessarily, because we are not sure why it is slower than A-GPS, and it is possible that it uses less/no data. No one has been able to test for me with cached maps and the different modes whether or not it uses data or not or the differences in data usage with different modes with the data counter.

At least now we know that our device cannot be used as a standalone GPS device, and is not a smart choice to take as a GPS if there is a possibility of losing signal.
