Hello all,

First post and new Eternity owner.  I gotta say, this is a nice phone.  No complaints on the phone itself. And thanks for the site.  Lots of useful info on here.  I never would have figured out how to put games on my phone had I not found this site.

Anyway...  AT&T Navigator.  I would say its a useful program, but lots of flaws.  I live in a moderate size city and do a LOT of driving in it.  I know it like the back of my hand.  I just wish Navigator knew it that well.  It gets me where I need to go, but sometimes I go a different route than it chooses.  Sometimes it is dead accurate and others not so.  Examples:

1) New construction areas.  I don't expect it to have these updated, but any "new" construction over 1 year old should be updated on the GPS.

2)  Lots of times it gets me near my location, but it tells me the address is on the RIGHT side of the road when it is on the left.  I was looking for one address and had I not known, I would be driving up into the middle of a cemetary instead of the business ACROSS the road.

3) It wanted me to make a left turn on a road where it was not allowed.  Again, had I not known this, it would not have been much fun.

4)  One time, I am going down the road and it tells me to go another 1/2 mile, make a legal U-turn, then come RIGHT BACK THE SAME WAY to get to my address which I would have passed to go down and make that U-turn just to come back...

5)  I was going to an address and it was in the 4800 block of a street.  I am at the 4500 block and it tells me I have arrived (again it told me the wrong side of the street), but I was still almost a mile away from the actual address....

I would say the program is about 75% accurate.  Some of these may not be so bad, but I know I would not even attempt to use this in a place I did not know where I was going...  I'm glad its a free trial because I do not see the point of spending $10 a month on a product that is supposed to *HELP* me when it may actually get me into a wreck..

Hope this helps some people who are considering the program.  I can't wait for a free GPS app for this phone.  Tom Tom or something similar would be nice.

I would have to second that motion.
Att Nav had me circling a 2 block radius and the business I was trying to find was in between the 2 blocks.
Hope someone gets a 3rd party app working soon.  Undecided

I know the people at amAzeGPS.com are working on it.

There is now a download at AmazeGPS for the Eternity, but I don't think anyone has gotten it to work yet

I was just at an ATT store, and he said if you have the unlimited Media Net, ATT Nav would only be $4.99 a month...?  Huh

One time I had the navigator operating, and it told me to go straight for another 1.5 miles.  The crazy thing was, there was a stoplight there!  If I hadn't been watching, I would have run right through the light.  I can't believe it didn't tell me to stop!!

Only kidding Smiley

It does have some problems, but all of these require some amount of common sense and awareness.  If you've ever tried to pinpoint your location on google maps, you'll notice that not everywhere is 100% accurate.  Locations are often off by slight amounts.

With the cemetary example, obviously you knew you weren't going to the cemetary.  It got you pretty close, its not unreasonable to expect to have to look a tiny bit.

With the u-turn exmaple, you were probably on a road where it thought it was illegal to turn left over the middle.  Therefore it takes you to a legal area and has you flip a u-wie.

For $10 a month, it could be better.  But from what I've seen so far, I think its pretty cool

Does ATT Nava really only cost an extra $5 if you have unlimited data?

I don't think so, but I could be mistaken.  I'm pretty sure the guy told me t was $9.99 per month, regardless of data plans

Correct me if I am wrong here but if you get just the AT&T Navigator for 9.99 per month with NO data plan, then you will get charged applicable per use data fees correct? This seems like it could get expensive...

Does anyone out there have just the AT&T Navigator for $9.99 per month? And if so, have you ever been charged anything more than that?

AT&T Navigator does require a data plan. The AT&T rep I spoke with made sure I had the unlimited data plan while she was setting me up for AT&T Navigator because it uses data. This is one of the reasons I don't like AT&T Navigator, it spends too much time downloading information because it doesn't have the Nav information stored in memory like the portable Nav devices do.

I am currently subscribed to AT&T Navigator for $5 a month because it is combined with my Unlimited MediaNet plan. The total for the two plans together is $20 a month. I will be unsubscribing from AT&T Navigator soon.

I have tried asking to get it for an additional $5 since I already have the $15 unlimited data, but no one (on multiple calls) at customer service will acknowledge that price.  They all tell me that I would have to pay $9.99 on top of my $15 data.  Angry

That's weird that none of the CS people could tell you about that bundle.  I was at an AT&T store today and thought I saw that they had a Media net Unlimited/AT&T Nav. bundle for $20, so I went on their website to check...It's on there, under Shop > Features > GPS.

It does make you put in your Zip Code though, so maybe it's only available in certain areas at that price (I'm in SE Wisconsin, in case that matters)?  Not sure why that would be, but I thought I'd let you know that it does exist...

Make sure you ask them about the Media Net and Navigator bundle, not just adding AT&T Navigator. The customer service person wouldn't have found it if I didn't ask her to look for it and I knew about it because I saw it online.

Well, I went online and it does show the bundle as an option now!  It sure didn't a few weeks ago when I was looking for it.  Maybe it took awhile to get to my location.  Anyway, thanks for the heads up!

Just to put it out there.

I tried Amaze. I DL'd the signed version...I had to hit Allow like a billion times and it can't use the GPS antenna......Just like we figured.
