MicroSD/MicroSDHC Memory Card F.A.Q.'s

*****************************************************
How much memory does my Eternity have?
•   The Eternity has 200MB of internal memory.

I want additional storage for my Eternity, what do I look for?
•   You can add additional storage by purchasing a memory card, the memory card that can go on the Eternity are MicroSD/MicroSDHC.

What is the difference between MicroSD and MicroSDHC?
•   MicroSD comes in lower capacity (256, 512, 1GB, 2GB)
•   MicroSDHC (High Capacity) comes in (2GB, 4GB, 8GB, 16GB, 32GB)

What size memory does my Eternity support?
•   Samsung tested the Eternity to be able to support 8GB MicroSDHC but there have been some people who have tested the 16GB version and has worked well for them (may be slow). The 32GB haven't been tested yet so there are no word on that yet.

The more storage I use the slower the access to the memory card becomes, why is that?
•   This is a given with any type of storage device, the more space you use up the increase in access time for it to read through all the data. When purchasing memory cards that are high capacity, make sure you go for one with a high class rating.

What is Class 2, 4, 6?
•   Class is the rated speed of the MicroSD:
Class 2 - 2mb/s
Class 4 - 4mb/s
Class 6 - 6mb/s
The higher the class the faster the rated speed.

Will my computer support MicroSDHC?
•   Most newer computer/laptops will have support for SDHC if not there are USB card readers as well as Multicard Readers (USB) that can use MicroSDHC. If you are not sure, look up the model of your card reader and check online on which it can support.

Do I have to purchase a MicroSD?
•   No you don't have to but if you're planning to put a lot of ringtones, pictures, videos, music and other media on your phone it will add up and the internal memory (200mb) may not be enough.

Can I put games/applications onto a MicroSD?
•   You may put files onto there but the games/applications must be on the phone's memory for it to be accessed.

I looked around and I can't find a slot to put the memory card, where is it?
•   Unfortunately while other Samsung models have a slot where you can take the card in and out, this one is located internally near the SIM card and Battery. You have to remove the back plate and battery to access this area. If you do not want to hassle with this all the time then I suggest you opt for a USB Cable or Bluetooth Adapter.

Okay I want to buy a memory card, what is a good brand?
•   SanDisk and Kingston are well known to make flash memory and they sell them pretty cheap.

Other brands to consider when making purchases are:
PQI, A-Data, Crucial, Transcend, OCZ etc... These companies are usually known to make computer memory (RAM) so while not as popular as the SanDisk and Kingston, they also have some reputation in the memory/storage divisions.

NICE!!!! Grin (OH and BTW: When Buying Microsd/hc cards they should come with a usb adapter for it, I haven't seen one NOT come with it, I have a billion just laying around all over my house) And if anyone plans on buying a 16gb one, buy it online, Amazon has them for . . . i think 54 dollars while other places prices are $100+.

just for the record, I'm using the Transcend 8GB class 6 card (newegg $17) and it not only works perfectly I don't notice any slowdown at all, and it's almost full. I've had good luck over the years with Transcend and A-Data cards in cameras. I wouldn't hesitate to buy one of those brands. (I also have a couple PQI flash drives that work great.)

Does anyone know anything about the sandisk mobile ultra micro sdhc cards? Apparently, my dad ordered one for me and it's coming in today.

I'll do a review when I get some time off from the world. Tongue

Okay, I got it the other day. Uploaded about 5.06 gigs on it, and it has lag but no longer than two to three seconds when switching between songs on the media player. And yes, doing the playlist thing makes the switch between songs in an instant.

I got a 16gb sandisk card off of ebay for $41. Has worked wonderfully.

As far as the 32gb cards go, I've been searching for quite some time and haven't found a micro SD this size yet. However, I did find this link where Sandisk announces that they are coming out with on the second half of '09.

I went to Sandisk's website and looked at those cards, but they make no mention of speed. Newegg says that the card is a Class 6 card, so it seems like Sandisk is just blowing smoke to get more sales because every other manufacturer already has Class 6 cards.

Referring back to the class, I'd say it's about a class 1,000,000.

Haha! Nah, maybe a 15. It's really, really damn fast. Not as fast as a computer, but you get the idea.

GET ONE! It's one fast little bugger. Cool
