first, what you are describing is no big deal. that is just how some numbers arrive.
secondly, if you're that concerned, simply do not reply.

This has been happening to me recently too. It's not a big deal except now every time I have a conversation with someone, their name shows up twice in my recent contacts. I feel that since it's not just me, it must be some weird network problem or something.

It is new. It happens to me too, as of about a week and a half ago. I'm not sure this is any issue, but it is strange... It might be an issue for those without MMS

it is not new. possibly more frequent, but not new.
and you could have people listed in your recent 3 times. number, 1number, and +1number.

No nunya, that only happened if you respond to an MMS message, and use that as your recent contact, or list in your regular contacts as +####.... This is happening with everyone I text, even if we have never exchanged an MMS, and I dont have +####... as their number.

Happening on the impression forum too.

Further proof it is a new network protocol/problem for AT&T.

I dont know if it is related or not. I know if you have numbers forwarded to your phone they show up with the + sign in front. Quite possibly ATT is having issues with their text center number and might be forwarding them.  It is happening to me too.

If this is something that was supposed to be put in place by AT&T, you could always just go through your contacts and add the +1 in front of their number. It would be really annoying but it would probably fix the problem

No you cant do that. It would then try to send the message or call to an international number.

ok, i realize that customer service personnel are just a bunch of unemployed  people that were rounded up at the local job fair with no real knowledge, training, or  ambition. but are we, the semi intelligent crowd, really letting this scare us. the +1 protocol has been part of cellular communications for years.

you can call, text,  forward, and anything else to and from a #, 1#, and +1#.

I know when I have my vonage forward the calls to my phone they come into my phone with the +1 prefix. If I redial with that number I get a message saying the international number I have dialed cannot connect.

the voice mail and text center all have +1 put in them. if you put a number into the forward section of your phone, it adds +1 to it. and if you have an opened text from a +1 number and you hit the green button to call them, it shows the +1 and the call goes through without a hitch.

this isn't new.

not new at all, been around for ever. the 1 is just the country code 1=usa might take a bit longer to connect cause it goes threw another computer to determine you're calling to the us. but you know if you add a number to your aim contacts that's exactly how you have to put them in +1# or it doesn't work. not a problem, just a feature Tongue
