So i was looking around and i know there are metal detector apps for the iphone and windows mobile. I found a couple for java but they cost money. I guess they use the GPS or somethin to find metal? idk does anybody know if these things actually work? anybody know where i can find a "free" one?

Didnt i just see this on the solstice forum? A gps or a cellphone cannot find metal buried in the ground. They are worthless gimmick apps. Something the iphone is famous for.

be careful looking for gold in dem dare hills. just about every inch of land in america is owned by someone. anything you find technically belongs to the property owner. taking it constitutes theft.

they do actually work - a colleague has an iphone and we just bought an app to try it. It's only a dollar for Pete's sake. It detects changes in the magnetic field - same thing the compass does. In theory you could use it as a lie detector with a purpose written app I guess!!

it only detects magnetic metals I guess so you'll still have to look around your kitchen for the aluminum pans. But it quite definitely does work, the app we bought - I'll tell you the name tomorrow, can't remember now, has a thing like a vertical fat progress bar that goes red when you find metal and makes a metally like noise when you get close. I can't see any use for it unless you like combing the beach on your knees for dimes.

Really? Do you think that? Thats something we have known for a long time. They either just do something stupid or are actually a browser shortcut.

Facebook has platform-specific apps for android and iPhone OS, though you could in theory make a shortcut on the app screen. They both access the same data, of course, but there is a disambiguation. It'd be nice if Facebook had a java app of course but I'm happy with Snaptu for updates.
