ok, I know this sounds foolish, but, what does the Data plan give you that you don't have to subscribe to?

you don't need to subscribe to mobile email (unless you upgrade to 3.0) you don't need to subscribe to the yellow pages or media mall, but you do need to purchase your purchases.
cingular video (why haven't they updated the name?) is available only if you have an ulimited data plan (but they only sell unlimited internet anymore). and once upon a time, it was only available while in a 3g area.
data use is free with a package. this means your data is free. without a package, the data used for your subscription services (such as gps) and the data used to download a purchase (such as ringtones) would cost in addition.

I was also looking at the $15 monthly data plan. So that would give me unlimited web use as well as downloads? I just want to listen to internet radio and watch youtube. That also included unlimited e-mail?
I'm not interested in messaging.

you tube is free. internet radio can be free or paid. downloads can be free or paid.
it all depends on what you use.
i've said many times, think of your pc. you pay for your internet. some stuff is free. some stuff costs. most of the paid stuff has free alternatives. your phone web is virtually the same.
you get unlimited data. this doesn't mean free everything. but the data used for these things are covered.

Thanks. I just don't want to be streaming videos on Youtube or listining to radio stations that have the listen free link on their web sites and then get a bill from AT&T with additional charges other then the data monthly plan charge.
Also with the $15 addition to my voice plan bill anyone know how much is added in taxes?
I know with my voice plan package there is about $10 in taxes/fees.

The taxes should be about the same. That is what I pay. And you cant go to websites and click on the listen free links. Those formats are compatible with our phone. Best 2 services out there are moodio.fm and orb. With orb you have to run a server on your computer. Moodio you just go to moodio.fm on your pc and sign up. Look for your radio stations and add them to your station list. Then go to m.moodio.fm and login on your phone and pick your station. Many stations are already in the moodio database. Or you can use a website like http://www.thestreamcenter.com/ to get the streaming links to add the stations to moodio. Clear Channel radio stations cannot be added but can be found in moodio's database.

I've been using the Virtual Radio app it's pretty nice, has a lot of stations connects pretty quickly and is actually pretty loud on my phone. Best part is you can start up a radio station and hit your multitask button then open your browser while listening to the radio you just have to make sure you change the end key settings to Hide Only instead of Hide and Pause in the internals menu under Java Settings/VM Settings/ MVM user End key option

I think I am going to look into adding the data plan next month. I want to make sure that if I add this package I am not locked into it for 2 years like my voice plan.

Wow I'll give that a try. I'm glad I got the data plan. In only a few days I have used about 33mb. I known that is not a lot for most users. I have been to busy to really use the phone.

all data features are addable and removable as you please with at&t as well as voice plans. two year contract is for phone only and that you stay with at&t for that period of time.

Yes I agree. And $15 is half of what that other phone charges.
