What is the Apple Tablet / iTablet?
November 9th, 2009

The Apple Tablet or iTablet: real or fake? At this point in the speculation with the numerous “leaked” specs and mock photos the questions is no longer whether the Tablet is real or fake, it’s a question of when. The Apple Tablet will clearly not be making the 2009 holiday season as the project still has yet to be officially announced by apple but numerous insiders and friends of friends claim legitimacy.

What Exactly is the Apple Tablet / iTablet?

The latest round of rumors has the apple tablet pegged at having a 10 inch touch screen designed to bridge the gap between the iPhone/iPod and a MacBook. Similar to modern netbooks in design and scope, the Apple Tablet is projected to enter the same bloated netbook market with Apple’s high end design (it’s expected appearance looks like a large iPhone), functionality (OS X for its operating system) and price tag (industry authorities expect a 700 to 800 US dollar price, roughly twice the cost of other high end netbooks).

Game Changer or Too Little Too Late?

Apple normally has an eye for innovation and ground breaking technology. The idea of falling in line by simply producing an expensive “Apple exclusive netbook” may or may not have the same effect as the iPod and iPhone. Many Silicon Valley insiders view this as Apple trying to play catch up to the current market rather than attempting to create an entirely new product as they have done in the past. It is hard to argue with the projected specs and functionality of a mini-MacBook as the iTablet / Apple Tablet is expected to perform at but with the price of modern computing dropping this might simply be Apple catering to their already niche clientele.

I just see this as a failure from the start but, mac people are pretty loyal so who knows.

Tablet pcs have been around for a while so apple will have to come up with something more appealing than a mere mac/iphone tablet.  With lenovo making a hybrid laptop/tablet pc apple already has stiff competition from day one.

Tablet pcs by themselves will pick up one day like I've been saying one day a server in a restaurant will come to your table holding a tablet pc even the hostess might use one to mark off whos sat and who isnt.  Tablet pcs will be big in the service industry one day but, for personal use I don't see it catching on.  That's why my money is on the ideapad u1 because it is a laptop first the tablet pc is an added feature.

My 2 cents
