The Software Version screen is *#1234# and the Hardware Version screen is *#2222#. I haven't found anything for the Engineer menu yet.

Ok, I just found the full admin menu.  It makes it much easier to turn off 3g.  Use the code *#6984125*# from the dial pad and choose option 3 (network & call settings) then 2 (network mode).

*#06# shows the IMEI
*#03# shows Unique Number (whatever that is)
*#78# enters Admin Setting (Test Touch free test & Test Touch Config)

I figured these out by testing.  I'm going to try and search for more codes online now.

From searching:

*#0228#  Shows battery info
*#4777*8665#  Allows you to select/deselect power on attach for GPRS
*#7465625#   Check the phone lock status
*2767*2878#  Seems to be the jackpot menu.  I'm still playing.  (carefully)
*#0002*28346#  This is another version of the Engineering menu.  (i.e. jackpot menu)

I somewhat figured out how to change the LED color.  I changed the blue from the cyan color to a deeper cobalt style blue.  I used the jackpot menu and then select option 2 (version information).  Then option 6 (RGB LED) and option 2(Color Tune).  Then I selected blue and changed option 2 from 50 to 0.

*2767*3855# This code does a full reset.  (it will wipe all data and settings)

One of the service menus for the a707 works too *#0523#
This one seems to get you to a light sensor and proximity test

The old trick to get to the root was to hit the back button, but I just see the 1-9 *# buttons

Well the first two codes just display information.  The second one is a test menu.

You enter these codes on the dial pad.

Thanks Naples.

Berig, I found the light sensor one particularly interesting!

Hehe yeah, that's the one we've been looking for.  You can get to all of the menus by going to that one and hitting back to the root menu (the one with debug screen down to common)

You should be able to use bitpim by going to the root menu, common, usb configuration and changing the usb setting to qualcomm usb.  I haven't ordered the usb cable yet, so I can't test this.

Which phone would you suggest I select in BitPim?

Just an update.  I was able to get BitPim to connect to the filesystem on the phone.  I used BitPim 1.07 (test version) and set the phone as an LG VX9900.

That's pretty sweet, I didn't expect to see any type of progress like this for at least a month. ;p

Seriously, I was very surprised that I found it so easily.  Good luck I guess.

I am assuming that the numbers for the LED colors are RGB percentages. I am not however getting how to put a value in more than a single digit number. Is there a key sequence for doing that in the menu?
