I had the phone replaced because of a bluetooth issue.

Could you elaborate a little more on this. I am wondering if my PC Sync (via bluetooth) issues are phone related or not.

I was having problems watching internet videos with a stereo bluetooth connection.  It would randomly dial someone in my address book.  I also went into the service menu and tried to check the bluetooth version and it would come up blank.

I am no longer having this issue with the replacement phone.

A stylus or a fingernail makes this easy and you only have to gently tap once.

sorry if you guys don't have long nails.   Cheesy

This is good to know. I guess they want the touchscreen to be as accurate as possible.   Just so everyone knows, it's the same on the Samsung Pixon. You have to press it over and over and over sometimes for it to react.

I calibrated a couple of times right when I got the phone, and I probably had to tap 10 times for each target. I went to recalibrate and now it takes hundreds of taps for each target. I easily tapped over 500 times and by then I wasn't even done with the second target.

What's the deal?

I don't have an Eternity yet, but I have quite a bit of experience calibrating the touch screens on our Panasonic Toughbook laptops at work. They seem to also require a couple of taps with finger or the tip of a pen (closed) before they will jump to the next calibration point.

I recall the FAQ on Samsung.com mentioning that it should be done with a stylus.  Yep - found it

Why Does Tapping The Screen On My SGH-A867 (Eternity) Phone With The Stylus Seem To Be Off Centered?

The SGH-A867 (Eternity) Calibration feature allows you to re-align the screen’s touch accuracy. Use this feature only when the device does not respond properly when you touch the screen. There is no need to tap on the display with any type of extra force.

Note: When touching the screen in Calibration mode, you must use the stylus, not your fingers, to touch the center of the cross hair.

Weird. I guess I don't really understand how it works. I never use any sort of stylus so it is curious to me how calibrating the phone with one will help me when I use my thumbs - it's not calibrating anything unique to my touch. With other devices (palm pilots specifically) when you calibrate them, if you were to tap on the screen a centimeter to the left of each target (for example), then the next time you tap on the screen the click is going to register a centimeter to the right of where you tap. This makes perfect sense to me... if you consistently click slightly off to the side of what you are trying to select (which frequently happens to me with my eternity), then calibrating the phone should account for this and solve the problem, but now I'm guessing that's not what this calibration feature does.

took about 20 times to calibrate using just fingers. Then tried with a stylus and worked fine on only 1 try each. I dont see how it helps calibrate the screen when this phone isnt built around stylus use. not sure what thats all about.

I'm even using a stylus now and it isn't changing anything for me. Now I can't get past the first target.

Think about what you are "calibrating". It's not the touch sensitivity that it's learning. It is learning where the input is in relation to the cross hair. Your big fat fingertip is not an accurate enough input for it to align the touchscreen. You don't have to use a stylus, you can use a closed ball point pen, fingernail, etc.

With touchscreen devices I usually use my fingernail anyway because I hate cleaning the screen.

I'm surprised no one else figured it out but, here's my two cents. First time you do the calibration, its perfect, the phone assumes you are hitting the dead center of the target wherever your touch may be. The problem is, running the calibration test a second time, or, any amount of times afterward forces the test to use your previous test's settings. for example, if in the first time you run the test the phone recognizes you hitting slightly to the bottom right of each target, then the second test will consider slightly to the bottom right of the target as dead center, regardless of where you see the actual target. This is a pain and a possible flaw being that, to properly calibrate multiple times, consecutive tests should default the center of the target to where it shows up on screen. The nintendo ds's calibration for example does just that, it always begins with the target in the dead center of the target on screen. Understand this or not, it shouldn't be like this and i for one hope it is fixed in a later patching of the phone's software.

I had the same problem, and it bugged me, so i took it to the att store, and they said it was normal. You just have to keep tapping until it moves. :/

Mine was acting so strange that I could never get past the 3rd calibration +.  I did a phone reset, and it is responding so much better now.

I don't know what the heck happened, but it was making me really angry.

Resets seem to always make the touchscreen act 'factory fresh'.   I have been using the end of my letter opener to calibrate it and everything works fine so far.
