I didn't see this posted anywhere else, but if is just send me there....

Yesterday my phone shut itself off and restarted three times in about a twenty minute period.  I was not holding the phone so there is no way I could have accidently bumped the power button.  I was driving in areas with limited service so maybe the the phone shuts itself off when it can't find service and then reboots in an attempt to find a signal... this doesn't make a whole lot of sense but that's all I could think of.  Anyone else have this problem or know what's going on??

If its a new phone it shouldnt be doing that. I havent experienced this problem. If your cell shuts off again, then i would take it back to the store and exchange it for a new one.

I had a similar experience, I was just browsing on my phone when it suddenly restarted by itself. If it does it again i'm gonna trade it in.

if it were me, i wouldnt even wait. Just take it back and get it replaced. A normal phone should never cut off for no reason, let alone multiple times in a short span of time. (in your case 20 minutes). Get it replaced asap

My phone does not have this problem, but I've seen a number of forum posts reporting the same issue.  In general the recommendation is to get your SIM card replaced (go to an AT&T store - should be free) as flaky SIM cards can cause this issue.  YMMV.

I have had mine for 2 weeks and it started doing this yesterday. Some of the items on the screen "jitter" and occasionally all of the buttons fail to work. Additionally the screen does not respond. There are times when I cannot shut the phone off.

If I leave it alone for 20 or 30 minutes it will 'settle'. Then the problems start again. All the more frustrating because I am out of town on business and cannot get to an ATT store. I have not dropped it or shocked it in any way and I have that hard case that ATT sells for the phone.

I am ready to throw it through a window. When it works it works really well, but when it refuses to work it is more worthless than a paperweight.

I really do like the phone, I just want it to work all of the time.

Just a thought: try cleaning and re-seating you SIM card.  Let us know if that helps.

I will give this a try for her when she gets home tonight..... before I have to take it back to the store.

My first eternity did this, i thought it was defective, so i exchanged it and my new one still does it. i used to think it was because i was pushing buttons so fast and going through everything before it had time to process it but ive noticed it has done it a few times while just sitting in my pocket. I could try the SIM thing, i doubt it though, probably just another glitch with the phone. i will keep checking this thread though.

Well my wife took her phone back in on Monday and they exchanged her battery for a new one. I think they told here that it wasn't keeping contact or the contact were bad. So far no more trouble.

Well about 4 days now and my wife hasn't had any problem with her phone shutting off. She does have to charge her phone every night so the battery they exchange out needs to be replaced since she isn't a huge phone user.

Thanks,

my phone does this too every once in a while ; i've had my sim card for about how many years now ; three? haha it's really old too. maybe it's the sim card.

i mean it only restarts everyonce in a while ; usually aim restarts my phone when i go to view it and im signed out it'll restart; its weird. or when im signed out and go to sign in it'll restart. its the only time it's been restarting i don't mind it though but still.

or when i text while i'm on the phone my phone goes black alot; but it's not off the person is still on the phone ; i always have to put the person im talkin to on speaker so i can text w/o the phone goin black.
