I posted this in the Announcements thread but thought I might get more feedback here:

"If Samsung does not offer the update for the Eternity or an upgrade option, are you going to not purchase anymore of their phones?

I am considering the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic phone which is up for pre-order now and shipping 02/26 or maybe wait til the Nokia N97 comes out in June. Both phones seem similar to the Eternity but seem more customizable and even have WiFi & Flash Lite support. The 5800 is unlocked but I'm not sure if the N97 will be.

I will have to do more research and read more reviews on these phones to see what they have to offer in terms of customizing (themes, wallpaper, ringtones, etc.), games, and third party apps."

uhh it doesn't really matter ; if you brought the phone this is what you brought it for? if you wanted a phone to be upgradeable or whatever maybe you should have gotten the iphone instead if you wanted all that good stuff on the phone.

i don't think the eternity is really made for that type of stuff its just my opinion.

and no i'm not going to buy another samsung phone if they don't come out with an update option or whatever, cause i'm content with my phone.
all i really wanted was a touch screen phone with music player on it and wasn't an iphone.
and it had to be at&t. so this was the perfect choice i hope my phone lasts for a while.

i had a quickfire for 11 days and didn't like it it was my test to see if i wanted a full screen touch ; and i did.

FYI I do have the iPhone. My kids have the Eternity. What I am stating is that if the Eternity was just their "test" phone and they are not going to support it and move on to other phones, then I will probably not be purchasing any future Samsung phones and wanted other opinions as to this.

By the way it is bought not brought.

ahh alright. if it was their test phone than that's dumb of them to even release it. it costs so much money too if it was a test phone and they're not gonna support it? then they should give us our money back.
& whatever im not perfect i don't care how i type..lol.

I guess I don't follow. Has Samsung said that they were going to provide an update to the Eternity, and then said they weren't? What was said update supposed to address?

And why would they offer an upgrade option? An upgrade to what and for what reason?

In general most mobile phone manufacturers don't offer much in terms of post sale support for upgrades for the phone software and so fourth. And if your waiting for Samsung to upgrade something, you'll be waiting a while. My previous phone was a Samsung Blackjack, and they took their sweet time in releasing WinMo6.1 for that. I like Samsung phones, but that prior experience really did weigh on my mind as far as getting the Eternity.

I personally wouldn't keep an Iphone if someone gave a brand new one to me. However, thanks to Apple, they might just end up shaking the rest of the handset makers out of complacency. But even Apple could care less about providing upgrade option for those who bought the 'test' version of the Iphone (the non-3G one). That's just the way the tech market / early adopters go. Those who jump in early often get burned.

Would I get another Samsung phone? Maybe. My Blackjack held up very well and I liked it, but the support wasn't anything to write home about. So far I really like my Eternity as well. I have looked at the Nokia 5800, but I've heard a lot of people say the UI was terrible.

i have hope in this phone and will be more than happy to stick with it for 2 years. third party apps, hopefully, will be the real highlight of this phone.

Samsung does have a few other phones with the touchwiz UI. so I would believe that they would provide support for it. So I dont think the eternity is a "test" phone. But even if it was, why would that deter you from purchasing another samsung phone?
